How to Lose Body Fat

Tuesday, July 31st, 2007

By Rocky Simpson How to lose body fat seems to be a question that many people make in their lifetime. The older you get, the easier it is to gain fat. It seems no one can avoid gaining weight when they get older. The metabolism changes and/or they become less active. They stop growing taller and start growing wider. Although, an answer exists. However, it is actually a good thing to ask the question “how to lose body fat?” You see that if you don’t ask that question, then you’re not realizing that there could be a problem when they’re actually might be one. The vast majority of us gain fat gradually over our lifetime. It’s always helpful to the monitor it somewhat closely. Losing body fat really doesn’t have to be hard. Actually, most people already know how to lose it. You simply need to eat right and exercise. However, too many times people look at one specific area of their body and only exercise that part. This might help to build up those particular muscles but generally won’t reduce as much fat as one would like. The trick to losing fat is to make sure that some of your exercise three or four days a week includes aerobic activity. It definitely is possible to build muscle from lifting weights and still carry a fair amount of fat. True, muscle mass does help to reduce fat because it requires more energy to make it work. However, if the food and fluids that you eat and drink amount to giving you more energy than what you expend daily, your body will most likely store some of that excess energy in fat. Every day your body uses energy to function whether it is simply moving from one place to another, taking a shower, brushing your hair, walking out to the car, or any one of the other many things you do daily. Most people don’t really continually watch what they eat every day. Therefore, since these people don’t have heavy laboring jobs or activities, they will likely gain weight. So therefore, exercise should be one of those activities that you do daily or even better at three or four times a week. You don’t want to do it just to reduce fat but also to keep your body healthy. For example, your heart loves aerobic activity. So what you need to do is a few things in order to implement the answer to the question of “how to lose body fat?” Write down all the foods (and drinks) that you consume daily in a log. This will help to keep track of the energy that you consume. Analyzing this food and drink to understand how much energy you are consuming will help to know how much exercise and activity you need to implement. Once you know your caloric intake, you’ll then have to reduce some of the food that you eat. Use a table that shows the caloric value that your foods have. Most people interested in losing fat will probably reduce their diet by about 500 cal. You will have to find out what is best for you. Then you need to grab another table to understand how much energy you need to expend weekly. I say weekly because when your exercise, you’ll need to only exercise three or four times a week and not necessarily daily. Your muscles need to repair themselves. Therefore, look at a weeks worth to make it easier. However, you’ll then have to break it down into each days worth. Now, with this information you should have a good idea as to how much of an energy deficit you’ll need to lose fat. As long as you have an energy deficit, you will gradually lose body fat. When you look at it, the process is rather simple. One of the main problems people run into is being consistent. Consistency and being persistent will be the key to reaching your goal. Small steps are best. Losing weight fast could throw your body into a defensive mode so a few pounds a week will be good enough. The answer to the question “how to lose body fat” really is not hard to understand. Staying motivated to continue the whole process likely will be the hardest. However, as long as you use more energy than you take in, you will be well on your way. Various important considerations need to be addressed in this process including eating the right foods, drinking plenty of water, consuming enough protein, and consulting with a doctor given your particular circumstances. However, with this information and a little motivation, your goal is not far from your reach. How To Open Up While Staying Safe

Monday, July 30th, 2007

By Rinatta Paries When you’ve had your heart broken in a relationship, it can be difficult to open up to love again and entrust your heart to another person. Similarly, when your partner hurts you, it can difficult to open up and bring trust back into your relationship. It’s hard to give your heart back to someone who has proven hurtful. Yet, you want to love, you want to trust, you want to open up. And so you do. Throwing caution to the wind you open up your heart again, hoping you will not get hurt. Still you find yourself getting hurt again and again and again. This is a dilemma many of us face, whether we are single or in a relationship. How do we open up to love and trust another person while staying safe and protected from hurt? I have created the following steps for you to do just that. 10 Steps To Opening Up While Staying Safe ~~~ 1. Assume that any person close to you will eventually hurt you, and continue to hurt you periodically. Have you ever hurt the people you love? Was it intentional, malicious? Were you sorry afterwards? Did you have trouble admitting your remorse? When others hurt you, realize they are just like you. They have likely hurt you unintentionally, and are remorseful and sorry afterwards. ~~~ 2. Do not assume that knowing someone well or being in love is going to prevent hurt. Regardless of circumstances, time or promises, step #1 still holds true. Getting to know someone well may prevent you from ending up with a partner who will be nothing but hurt and heartache. But, it still won’t prevent you from getting hurt eventually. ~~~ 3. When he or she does hurt you, assume it is not personal, is not directed at you and is not about you. When your partner or potential partner does something that makes your heart ache, think back to a time you inflicted hurt on another. You did not do it intentionally, maliciously. It’s just that you were reminded of something in your past. You were afraid. You could not help yourself, etc. The same is likely true of your partner, who was reminded of something in his/her past, was afraid, could not help him/her self, etc. ~~~ 4. Learn to set boundaries. To find out what your boundaries are, ask yourself the following questions: *What don’t I want in my life, in my relationships? *What type of behavior hurts me? *How would people need to behave around me in order for me to thrive? Make a list of your answers. Make your boundaries big enough so that you feel very safe. Start to educate people about them. ~~~ 5. When you’ve been hurt, learn how to immediately take care of yourself by removing yourself from the situation and soothing your emotions. For example, if your partner raises his or her voice when upset and this hurts, learn how to say “stop” and “I will not talk about this when you raise your voice at me”. Then, do something that makes you feel good. It may be taking a long bath, or a walk, or watching a movie. Let’s take another example. Let’s say you are single and waiting for a call from a potential partner. Let’s say you have been waiting for a call for days. Remove yourself from the situation by ending the wait–stop waiting for the call. In fact, ignore the phone and let the answering machine pick it up. Now do something that makes you feel better. Treat yourself, nurture, entertain, etc. ~~~ 6. Realize that the key to saying safe is not in trusting the other person but in trusting yourself. You can never guarantee that another person will not hurt you. In fact, you can be assured that most people–especially those close to you–will hurt you occasionally. But this does not mean you can never open your heart for fear of being hurt. You can learn to trust yourself to take care of you in a hurtful situation by removing yourself from the situation and soothing your emotions. ~~~ 7. Become the kind of person who can be trusted to take care of her/him self first and always. As soon as you can trust yourself to always take care of you first, your heart will become safe and you will feel free to form or rekindle a relationship. It’s that important. Taking care of you can be anything from ending a fight the minute it begins to immediately voicing a concern to making a request to get what you want and need. It means you always think of yourself and your needs first. ~~~ 8. Learn to communicate effectively and powerfully, yet gently. You want to try and stop the hurtful behavior, but do so in such a way that the person does not resent you. For example, let’s say again that your partner raises his or her voice at you in anger, which you do not like. You may want to stop the behavior by calmly saying something like, “Please do not speak to me with a raised voice. I cannot hear you when you raise your voice and I want to hear you. Can we speak calmly now or should we have this conversation later?” Our second example may be more appropriate for singles. Let’s say you are still waiting for that phone call. The person finally calls several days later. If you choose to communicate about this, you might say, “I am glad you called. It has been a while since we last spoke and I was starting to loose interest.” There is no attack, no accusation, yet everything that needs to be said to make an impact is said with grace and heart. ~~~ 9. Learn to trust your opinions about yourself, your actions and your attributes as more important than the opinions of others. Sometimes in relationships, hurtful things can be said in the heat of the moment. Sometimes these things don’t need to be said–it is obvious when your partner thinks badly of you. Believe in yourself and appreciate yourself enough to be able to dismiss the hurtful words and the vague feeling of being judged as irrelevant. ~~~ 10. Learn when it’s appropriate to forgive and when it’s best to end the relationship. Any partner will hurt you occasionally. The question is how much and how often. An occasional hurt or annoyance can be forgiven or dealt with for the benefit of the relationship. Working through the hurt can make you grow together. On the other hand, if you find yourself being hurt from the onset of the relationship and it never stops, you may want to reconsider your choice of partners. The best news is that when you can take care of you — first and always — you will attract partners who will tend to do less hurting and much more loving. Marketing Lessons from a Rabid Chipmunk!

Sunday, July 29th, 2007

By David Badurina A relative of mine is a mail-carrier for the United States Post Office. Like any place of employment, there are all sorts of colorful characters working there. They’re all very good people - friendly and enjoyable to chat with. A gentleman working at the same post office as my relative is a happy, cheery kind of guy. I met him on a few occassions back when I was basically a rebellious high-school hoodlum. I noticed his pleasant demeanor. And that he was bald - much like I’ll likely be in a matter of a few years. His co-workers had nicknamed him “Shiny”. Shiny was assigned a walking route most days. The neighborhood he traversed was quite nice - lined with tall, shady trees for those hot summer days in South New Jersey. When you think of suburbia, you can easily picture Shiny walking - bag in hand - delivering mail to the nice people on his route. Manicured lawns, nice cars, kids playing in the bright and toasty sunshine. Shiny was happy. Until one day, when small, furry horror reigned … Shiny was doing what he does every day, walking his mail route. When suddenly an irrationally aggressive and perhaps slightly disturbed chipmunk sprung forth from one of the trees he was walking under and viciously attacked his head. Shiny did his best to quickly beat the fuzzy ferocious creature from atop his unprotected noggin. While no grave injury occurred during this incident, he did have quite a few scratches, needed some medical attention, and received a rabies shot. This story actually teaches us many valuable lessons that we can use in life and in business. Rabid Chipmunk Lesson #1: “Take Risks.” If the chipmunk had been able to pry off Shiny’s head and stick it into the knot-hole of a tree, perhaps this would be a different story with a different lesson - such as, “STAY AWAY FROM CHIPMUNKS IN NEW JERSEY!” Thank goodness this wasn’t the case, of course. However, we cannot overlook this brave, furry, suburban-dwelling animal’s actions. The pinnacle of chipmunk achievement was within it’s grasp. Did it freeze, uncertain of what to do? Did it seek approval from other chipmunks? No. This scrappy little fellow risked bodily injury and flung himself toward the gargantuan and delectable nut below. In business, we’re often faced with similar choices. What do you do when opportunity arises? Are you a gambling chipmunk with an aggressive mean-streak, or are you the cautious kind? The cute little woodland creature that seems to miss many grand opportunities? Rabid Chipmunk Lesson #2: “Things are not always what they seem.” I can imagine what went through his little chipmunk brain just before leaping. Before him was an acorn so huge that other chipmunks in the neighborhood would be talking about him as legend if he could obtain it. For years to come, as dusk fell in Southern New Jersey, knot-holes as far as the eyes could see would have wise old chipmunks telling the young ones of this most heroic feat. His name, forever etched in the annals of chipmunk warrior-dom. His story becoming fable over the years, with each retelling the size of the acorn grows until it’s as if the chipmunk, lean muscles bulging, flew from the tallest tree in the land and swallowed whole an acorn the approximate size of a 1969 Volkswagon Bus and then went on to marry the most beautiful chipmunk queen on earth. This lesson is important in every business decision you make - whether it’s a piece of equipment you’re purchasing (”A printer/fax/copier/cloning/time machine for only $89.99!”), or a joint venture opportunity you are approached about. Pay attention to your intuition, but balance that with a firm grip on reality. Rabid Chipmunk Lesson #3: “Expect the Unexpected.” I would wager a fair amount of money that as Shiny was walking down the street, the last thing he expected was the Attack Chipmunk of Doom unleashing Furry Fury From Above. It’s not unfathomable, really. Chipmunks climb trees. When you walk on a sidewalk, trees are there. Unexpected indeed. In business this is a rule to live by. Just when you need 200 copies of one of your brochures, the printer gags, chants backward in Latin, and projectile-vomits pea-green toner onto the wall as if it’s possessed. Right when you’re on the phone with an important client, your batteries run out. As business owners, we can’t prepare for everything, but we can at least make a point of understanding that crazy things can - and do - happen. How you handle them is the difference between something unexpected being disastrous, or yet another obstacle you’ve overcome. There are many more lessons we can learn from this story, but the most important lesson is this: Pay attention. Strange things happen in life and if you understand what’s going on, you just might end up learning something very valuable from something that’s … well … fairly ridiculous. Aromatherapy: The Power of Aromatics

Thursday, July 26th, 2007

By Michael Russell “Every plant, animal or inanimate thing has an odour and one peculiar to itself, but in many cases it is not obvious to us. Thus things which appear to us to have no odour give forth one of which other animals are conscious… The two senses of taste and smell are akin to each other, wherefore it is through things which appeal to the taste as well as those which appeal to the sense of smell that men try to discover fragrant odours”. Theophrastus When we inhale a pleasant perfume, we feel impatient for the next breath as we find it has a relaxing and helpful influence. If we pick up an obnoxious odour, we frown, become tense and irritable until we are free of its influence. Although the basic function of olfaction is in warning us of danger and so is a protective sense, another aspect increases our sense of enjoyment of life. We can increase our awareness of olfaction and even cultivate it in order to enrich our appreciation of life, particularly natural life, as when we inhale the perfume of a rose or enjoy the freshness of the forests. Our sense of smell is directly related to our respiration. It is intimately connected with the memory centres of the brain which file away previous sense memories and experiences. Different scents can unconsciously or consciously affect or trigger our moods, our deep emotions and our thoughts, depending upon our associated experiences. By a subtle whiff of perfume or scent from our past, we can be instantly transported in time. We all have been ‘taken back’ at some time by the reminder of a special scent or perfume. This demonstrates one of its greatest inherent powers. But this is not the only power that aromatics possess. It is interesting to know of the many uses of perfume in the past. The most common use of fragrant rushes of course was in attempts to overcome unsanitary conditions where bad odours usually had to be endured. in conditions where deep breathing would have been difficult. Cottage gardens, in addition to the pure aesthetical value, featured scented plants to help improve the immediate atmosphere. Perfumes were also used in the art of healing. It may seem strange to us that Egyptian priests of long ago used inhalation of a perfumed oil as a treatment for epilepsy or to ward off the plague, but there are many modern scientific tests involving the efficacy of essential oils as antiseptics, antivirals and in the healing of certain symptoms of disease. Beyond the obvious benefit and enjoyment of perfumes it is now becoming recognized that natural scents have a positive value in healing and helping the mind and emotions. It has developed into a subtle science with many practitioners employing the art in helping relieve psychological as well as physical stresses and strains. As the finest natural perfumes can help to make us feel good and to elevate our consciousness, or calm our mood so there are odours which are heavy, damaging to our cells and depress our consciousness. These can cause irritation to our brain and nervous system to the extent that even brain damage or mental derangement can result. Glue “sniffing” is a common example amongst the young people hoping for a passport to a heavenly state but sadly experiencing the opposite. A negative experience can result after deep inhalation of a chemical or synthetic aromatic substance. That is why any claim of aromatherapy is based upon the use of an natural essential oil only. Perfume directly affects the brain and has both a physiological and a psychological effect - an effect upon our respiration and breathing, as well as upon our moods and thoughts. It can also help to create a strong influence upon our environment and immediate atmosphere of the office or home, but care should be used in selecting sprays for this purpose. The science of aromatics is advancing, but is hampered to a large extent by the fact that it will always be subjective, depending upon the individual reaction. Valuable work is continuing with professionals who offer aromatherapy in combination with massage and relaxation. Although some would consider it is a rather superficial indulgence, others experience greater benefit if the appropriate oils and perfumes are applied. So it is vitally important that attention is given to the personality, character and needs of each individual, else such treatment can be reduced to just another technique for relaxation. When selecting a body perfume for oneself it can be that the somewhat confusing array of commercial products makes choice difficult. Remember the powerful and wonderful selection of natural oils which can offer you a simpler but satisfying range of attractive scents which can also make you feel good. Of the range of essential oils it is possible to select ones which are stimulating or calming, relaxing or vitalizing, masculine of feminine in influence - with some of the most popular being rose, lavender, pine, sandalwood, vanilla, bergamot, petitgrain, cedarwood, neroli, cypress, ylang-ylang, boronia, jasmine and lemon-each having a different application and each offering a unique benefit. Treatment For Oily Skin

Tuesday, July 17th, 2007

By Kent Pinkerton Individuals who have very active sebaceous glands in the body produce excess sebum that is an oily secretion. Such individuals are found to have oily skin. Oily skin can be both a blessing as well as a curse. It is counted as a blessing as such individuals have to reckon with fewer wrinkles as they age. However, oily skin is generally considered to be a problem skin as such individuals may have acne, blackheads and whiteheads erupting on the skin. Most teenagers have oily skin and may have to suffer the agony of having pimples and acne. This is mostly due to hormonal changes taking place in the body. Oily skin requires care so that excess oil is removed frequently and skin is kept free of oily secretions that could lead to an infection. It is important to follow a proper skin care routine to have a glowing, smooth and flawless skin. There are several companies in the market that claim their brands and products to be effective for care of oily skin. However, it is advisable to take these claims with a pinch of salt and ascertain whether ingredients in the product are safe for application on skin or not. Most of these products have mild benzoyl peroxide or salicylic cleanser as their basic ingredient. There are several natural therapies and remedies that are claimed to be effective in caring for oily skin. A mixture of limejuice with cucumber juice is a good remedy that needs to be applied on the skin half an hour before taking a bath. A few drops of eau de cologne may be added to the mixture too. This mixture removes excess oil from the skin. It may also clear the pores in the process and thus prevent development of acne. Medical practitioners and dermatologists generally recommend skin peels, laser treatments, Doxycycline, Accutane and tetracycline for skin care in case of oily skin. Cetaphil has also found support among them as a great face wash. Skin provides detailed information on Skin, Skin Care, Skin Rashes, Skin Treatments and more. Wedding Photographer and Wedding Videographer - Reducing the Cost

Monday, July 16th, 2007

By Hilary Basile According to Conde Nast Bridal Infobank, the average cost for a wedding photographer is $2,600. For having your wedding videotaped, you could expect to pay anywhere from $1,000 up to $7,000 or more. While realizing that these wedding photos and wedding video will serve as a lasting memory of your wedding day, you may not want this to be a lasting expense. Following are some important things to consider when selecting your wedding photographer and wedding videographer and methods for reducing costs. The Wedding PhotographerShop around! Photographers fees vary widely depending on experience. Spend time researching to select the best available wedding photographer within your price range. Hire a wedding photographer that gives you your negatives. This way you can make as many copies of wedding photos as you wish without having to order them directly from the photographer. If you choose a wedding photographer that will not provide you with the negatives immediately, find out how long they keep them on file so you can obtain them when they are ready to dispose of them. Be sure to look at the photo packages available to make sure your wedding photos wont cost $50 for a 5×7. Hire the photographer to stay for the most important aspects of the reception the first dance, cutting the cake, the bouquet toss, etc. then send them home when all that is left is dancing so youre not paying for their time. Leather albums are expensive. Consider putting together your own album of wedding photos. Just be sure to use acid-free paper. Ask your wedding photographer to work entirely with color film. Black and white photos increases costs substantially since they are often printed by hand. Hire an advanced student from a reputable photography or film program to photograph or tape your wedding. Many students will charge a flat-fee. Consider placing a disposable camera on every table at the reception for your guests to capture some fun moments as well. Inquire about any assistants they may have as you are generally billed for their time involved as well as the photographers time. Ask if the wedding photographer processes and develops their film and prints. Costs are generally higher if this aspect of the job is outsourced. Check references. Beware of any photographer who insists that you pay in full before your film has been developed. The Wedding VideographerAs with your wedding photographer, be sure to shop around when it comes to selecting a wedding videographer. Fees vary widely depending on experience and demand. The length and nature of coverage plays an important role in price: how many cameras and camera operators will be at your wedding and reception, how long they will stay and how much editing does the wedding videographer estimate will have to be done. The least expensive coverage typically provides one camera and operator recording the wedding and handing you your wedding video at the end of the ceremony. A good rule of thumb is to be prepared to pay at least as much for your wedding videographer as you pay for your wedding photographer. Ask about the payment structure and whether there are any hidden costs. How much is the retainer? Under what circumstances is it refundable? Is it part of the total cost of the wedding video? Does it guarantee the date? When is the balance due? Decide what you’re comfortable with. These conditions may be negotiable. If you’re not comfortable with the financial arrangements, find another videographer. The contract is how you and your videographer communicate. It’s where you come to an agreement and record what will happen with regard to your wedding video. Make sure that everything you want from the wedding videographer and everything he expects from you is written into the contract. If you opt to capture your wedding on video, find a videographer that offers packages with one camera coverage and limited editing. Consider asking a friend that owns a video camera to shoot the day for you and create your wedding video. While realizing that wedding photos and a wedding video will serve as a lasting memory of your wedding day, it does not have to be a lasting expense. Use these tips to select a wedding photographer and wedding videographer that works with your wedding budget. Patchouli Essential Oil in Aromatherapy

Saturday, July 14th, 2007

By Lisa Barger Native to Asia, Patchouli is now grown in tropical areas around the globe. Though several species of this perennial shrub are cultivated for the perfume and scent industries, the species Pogostemon cablin is regarded as the species producing the highest quality essential oil. Before the leaves can be distilled, they must undergo a process that ruptures their cell walls. Usually this done through controlled fermentation but drying or steaming is also effective. Patchouli is steam distilled from the leaves of the Pogostemon cablin. Traditional Herbal Uses Patchouli has been used in both the Near and Far East for centuries. The ancient Chinese used patchouli to create perfumed inks while Indians and Arabs used it as an insect repellent while shipping textiles and rugs to Europe. According to a legend cited in the International Journal of Aromatherapy, patchouli eventually came to be so strongly associated with Middle Eastern textiles that new garments lacking that distinctive scent wouldn’t sell as well as their perfumed counterparts. In more recent times, herbalists have embraced Patchouli for its many alleged medicinal properties. Patchouli has high levels of pogostone, reported to be anti-microbial. In skin care, patchouli is believed to be a powerful weapon against skin conditions like eczema and psoriasis. Patchouli also is alleged to have anti-fungal and anti-parasitic properties. In Chinese medicine, patchouli is said to be warming. It increases Qi and helps with fatigue and abdominal problems. Aromatherapy Uses Aromatherapists regard patchouli as grounding, warming and relaxing. It is said to help people “find themselves” and embrace their sensual and creative sides. Blending With Other Essential Oils Patchouli has a warm, woody scent that’s slightly reminiscent of garden soil. It leaves a dry, full sensation in the nose. It has an anchoring effect in an essential oil blend and is best used as a perfume base. It blends well with many other oils, especially the citrus oils, which tend to soften it nicely. Florals, on the other hand, will deepen and enrich patchouli. Patchouli is considered a base-note or anchor. Safety & Warnings Patchouli is generally considered safe.
